1. The deadliest shooting of the year was not stopped by a wellness check

Sagadahoc County sheriff Joel Merry said that law enforcement had attempted to do a check-up on Robert Card a few weeks before the worst mass shooting in the history of the country. Merry claimed that he sent a depute to Card’s home after being tipped-off about threats he had made against his U.S. Army Reserves base in Saco Maine, but he was unable locate him.

Merry said that he sent out an “attempt to locate” alert to every law enforcement agency in the state after being unable to locate Card, but many have still questioned how Card was not apprehended before carrying out the attacks in Lewiston, Maine which killed at least 18 people last week.

Everytown for Gun Safety reports that Maine doesn’t have “red-flag” laws which could prevent an individual from accessing firearms when they believe it to be a risk to themselves or others.
