1. The 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks

Twenty-two years on from the 9/11 terrorist attacks the number of people who died as a result of health complications is nearly the same as the number of those who died during the attack.

The Uniformed Firefighters Association posted on its Facebook page Monday that “341 FDNY firefighters have died since September 11, 2001 from rare cancers or diseases caused by toxic dust at Ground Zero.”

FDNY has announced the addition of 43 new names to its World Trade Center memorial for those who passed away from illnesses related to 9/11. These include paramedics, EMTs, firefighters and others.

2. Searching for earthquake victims is underway in Morocco

After a 6.8-magnitude earthquake in the Moroccan High Atlas Mountains, more than 2,500 people were killed and 1400 critically injured.

The earthquake occurred late on Friday night, southwest of Marrakech. On Monday, both international and domestic aid teams were still looking for survivors in remote mountain areas.
