1. House of Representatives nears three-week period without Speaker

Kevin McCarthy’s historic removal from Congress has created a void of power. Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise were the two leading candidates to replace him. Both have now dropped out. Nine new Republicans are now vying for the seat despite neither of their successors having been able to garner enough votes.

Seven of the nine Republicans running for the Speaker of the House of Representatives voted in the past to reverse the results of 2020’s presidential election. House Republicans plan to listen to all candidates Monday night at a discussion forum, then meet Tuesday to decide on which candidate to support.

2. The death toll has risen to over 1.4 millions Palestinians

The Palestinian Health Ministry released a statement on Monday stating that the ongoing Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip resulted in 5 087 deaths and 15 273 injuries. In the West Bank 95 more people have died, and 1,828 others were injured. Nearly half were children.
