
A new powerful documentary shines a spotlight on the police corruption and gentrification of Denver’s Black Communities.
The Holly The story follows Terrance Roberts who, after serving time in prison for gang activities, founded a successful youth programme in a Denver neighbourhood. Roberts, who was arrested in 2013 for shooting an ex-gang member during a peace rally attracted national media coverage.
Director Julian Rubinstein is a Denver native who moved back after growing up to investigate the crime and the history in the area. He told Sonia Baghdady Advocate Now He “felt like he was in the middle a crime, and not just reporting a crime which had already happened.”

Rubinstein says, “It felt like riding a horse for a little while.” “I realized right away that there was a different story in the community than what the media was presenting and broadcasting. It was covered extensively. It was a part of the initial effort to uncover the truth and tell an alternative story.
