1. FBI warns against potential hate crimes following the Israel-Hamas War
Last week, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security issued a joint public service announcement warning of potential threats related to Israel’s war with Hamas. The agencies stated that since the beginning of the conflict, both Jewish and Muslim institutions were targeted.
In one case, 6-year-old Wadea Al Fayoume was stabbed 26 times by his family’s landlord. Hanaan Shahin’s 32-year old mother also sustained more than 12 stab wounds, preventing her from attending the funeral of her son.
The sheriff’s department said that Wadea was “targeted because he is Muslim and there is a Middle Eastern conflict going on between Hamas, Israel and Hamas.”
2. Biden visits Israel in response to the outrage caused by the Gaza hospital bombing
As U.S. president Joe Biden visited Tel Aviv, protests broke out across the Middle East in response to a deadly Gaza hospital explosion. Biden had been scheduled to travel to Amman, Jordan’s capital, but an official at the White House said that the trip has been cancelled.
