1. Biden met with Chinese President Xi Jinping — how did it go?
In an effort to improve relations between China and the United States, U.S. president Joe Biden met Xi Jinping in San Francisco on Wednesday. Biden reiterated that he had called Xi a “dictator” in his earlier remarks, adding, “Well, look at him, he really is.”
“I mean, he’s a dictator in the sense that he is a guy who runs a country that is a communist country that is based on a form of government totally different than ours,” Biden said. “Anyway, I think we made some progress.”
Political analysts said that they did not expect major breakthroughs to come out of the Biden-Xi meeting, but it was still a positive, yet tepid, step forward in international affairs. Biden, despite his remarks, seems to have helped to advance at least one American-important issue: panda diplomaty.
