1. Israel declares War on Hamas After Deadly Attack
Israel vowed to take “mighty revenge” after Hamas attacks over the weekend killed 900 people — most civilians. Israel’s military announced on Monday it would impose a total Gaza Strip blockade and call up more than 360,000 reserve soldiers. This move could be a sign that a ground attack is being planned as retaliation.
Israel has been launching airstrikes on the Gaza Strip since Saturday’s attacks. These are the most destructive bombings in 75 years of war. Gaza officials report that almost 700 Palestinians are dead, and entire districts have been destroyed. Hamas has warned that it will kill an Israeli hostage each time Israel attacks a Palestinian house without warning.
