1. House Speaker McCarthy launches an impeachment investigation against Biden
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy revealed on Tuesday that, in response to Republican pressure, he has directed House committees to begin an impeachment probe into President Joe Biden.
The inquiry will focus on if the president benefited from his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings. Republicans have not put forth evidence showing that Biden directly benefited from his son’s business dealings.
White House spokesman Ian Sams said in a statement that McCarthy’s move is “extreme politics at its worst.”
2. Morocco death toll rises after devastating earthquake
A powerful earthquake with a 6.8 magnitude that struck Morocco late Friday night has confirmed the deaths of more than 2900 people. A further 5,530 people were injured.
Rescuers arrived at the epicenter of this disaster, in the High Atlas range of mountains southwest of Marrakech, on Wednesday. The difficulty in reaching remote mountain areas has been due to the blocked roads and other damages.
