1. Infighting among Republicans pushes the government to shutdown

Congress has 11 days left to agree on funding for the government, or else the government shuts down at the beginning of next month.

The House Republicans have presented a temporary measure which includes an 8 percent cut to most federal agencies as well as tighter border restrictions. The proposal did not include funding for Ukraine or disaster relief.

The bill is unlikely to be passed as several Republicans are expected vote against it in line with Democrats.

2. Biden speaks to UN General Assembly about Ukraine

The 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly started in New York, on Tuesday. President Biden delivered an emotional speech in support Ukraine, asking leaders around the world to be firm with their support.

“If we allow Ukraine to be carved up, is the independence of any nation secure? I respectfully suggest that the answer is “no”. We have to stand up to this naked aggression today and deter other would-be aggressors tomorrow,” he said.
